Abstract Aim Testicular torsion (TT) requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to avoid testicular loss. Most studies have focused on the ideal work up to rule TT out in cases of acute scrotum. We attempted here to define objective criteria to select between orchidopexy and orchidectomy in patients undergoing surgery for TT. Patients and methods Fifteen boys with a median age at presentation of 7.8 (range 6.4–12) years undergoing surgical treatment for TT underwent color-Doppler ultrasound (CDU) preoperatively, and a bleeding test intraoperatively. Hemodynamic effects of experimental testicular torsion.

Experimental testicular torsion must be used for certain studies of clinical relevance, but most experimental models either do not provide hemodynamic alteration comparable to the clinical situation or cannot guarantee reproducibility. Using a rat model arterial perfusion and hemorrhagic infarction were correlated to the degree of both intra- and extravaginal testicular torsion. Arterial inflow was measured sequentially with radiolabelled microspheres, hemorrhagic infarction was judged by the increase of testicular weight. Maximal hemorrhagic infarction and reproducible values were found when the spermatic cord was twisted together with the tunica vaginalis for 360 degrees-540 degrees.

Isolated torsion of fallopian tube, meanwhile uncommon, should be considered in diagnosis of pelvic and lower abdominal pain. US investigation is an useful diagnostic tool. A prompt diagnosis could avoid salpingectomy and preserve fertility. Laparoscopy, as the first approach, should be preferred. We report a case of isolated tubal torsion occurring in a premenarcheal girl successfully managed by laparoscopy.

This paper provides solutions for De Saint-Venant torsion problem on a beam with arbitrary and uniform cross-section. In particular three methods framed into complex analysis have been considered: Complex Polynomial Method (CPM), Complex Variable Boundary Element Method (CVBEM) and Line Element-less Method (LEM), recently proposed. Ectopic adrenal tissue is an occasional finding during surgery procedures. These remnants are usually found near the primary gland or along the course of gonadal vessels consistently with embryologic development. The appearance is of a small but distinct, soft, round, yellow nodule and only cortical adrenal tissue is normally observed. Biomechanics and functional morphology of a climbing monocot.

Climbing monocots can develop into large bodied plants despite being confined by primary growth. In our study on Flagellaria indica we measured surprisingly high stem biomechanical properties (in bending and torsion) and we show that the lack of secondary growth is overcome by a combination of tissue maturation processes and attachment mode. This leads to higher densities of mechanically relevant tissues in the periphery of the stem and to the transition from self-supporting to climbing growth. The development of specialised attachment structures has probably underpinned the evolution of numerous other large bodied climbing monocot taxa.
